History and theories
Other publications in this series: [part one] [part three part four] [part five part six] [part seven]
Hello everyone and thanks again for reading! In today's article, i will take a different route, drawing in general lines the fascinating connections between the concept of the maps of the map and my interpretations of the symbols present in our mural. However, i will leave the format the same, just to control the chaos that is my incoherent speech. So if you want to know my theory on how much the death of a titan mural reveals more about solas' rebellion against evanuris and the motive behind the creation of the veil, read on!
I'm going to analyze it right here fresco titled "the death of a titan". I've also numbered the image so you can link it to the captions below.
1. Spear of light
"She shook the radiance of the stars, divided them into grains of light, then stored firewood in a mine of precious metals. Andruil, blood and power, save society from time this weapon is thrown. Your people pray to you spare us as soon as we are your victim."
There is a brief image of an elaborate golden spear burning with unbearable heat. After which it disappears.
- Illegible elvish writing
There are many possible interpretations of what this line of light agrees to mean, but my own opinion is that it symbolizes andruil's spear, which she created from the stars as seen in " death of a titan”, and besides this on the fresco, i analyzed in the first part, and in this self-portrait of the dire wolf, the downward-facing triangles seem to be the symbols of the stars.
The stars also symbolize the fade, but i think that in this situation they have a connection with the release of the spear of illumination, in the above codex entry. Uses a spear to kill a titan, striking each one with what appears to be his "core". What makes me curious is how her slaves and worshipers associated the use of these weapons with the fact that they were sacrificed. Is this similar to the situation where the tevinter magisters sacrificed elven slaves to reach the golden city? From what i understand, the evanuris became evanuris gradually, over a millennium after fighting the titans. Although they were still considered "generals" and "respected elders" during and for the minimum period after the war, i do not think that it would be worthy of visitors to pray to them and swear allegiance to their service (i.E. "Your people are praying to you. It is more likely that the above codex entry was written long after the battle with the titans, after the apotheosis of evanuris. However, it is still, perhaps, that she always had this “weapon or spell? Issuance of both) which helped her in the first place give the power she needed to kill titans, which led to her eventual title of god. Probably became andruil's spear, made of "starlight".
2. Elves
As you can see from the variety of ancient elven artwork that we find in the game, such as frescoes and mosaics, different people are represented physically the same. The only way to guess the identity of those depicted is through subtle hints and sends to knowledge.
For example, this mosaic in the temple of mythal depicts a member of the elven pantheon sitting on a halla, so it is believed that this is gilan' nein, mother of halla. Moreover - in part 1, section 5, i concluded that this elf was a mythal, only because of the "fractured" images shown on her clothes. I actually forgot to mention in this post what her head seems to be the moon. Dalish mythology testifies that, using the services of the first night after elgan'arn cast the sun out of the abyss, mythal created the moon to send it into the sky as a pale reflection of the sun's true glory. For example, the analogy that flemeth is now just a pale reflection of what she often was, "a shadow hovering in the sun."
In each individual case, despite the lack of hard evidence that there is, as far as the origin of the elves shown, much, much to be unpacked in the realm of lore and codex records that can be paired. I will divide this section into two subsections to make it easier for you to see my ideas about this, who all of the elves are.
Evanuris / andruil
Actually i think the figure on the left represents evanuris in its entirety minus solas (since i don't believe he was ever a member of them and possibly mythal. However, if i had to choose for lack of extra justification, i think that the figure on the left is andruil. The main reason for this is what i briefly talked about in category 1: andruil's "spear of light". This precious metal has been considered synonymous with magic in all the frescoes done by solas so far, and it looks like the figure is raising its hand in a casting motion, surrounded by aura of magic. I believe this is due to the spear of golden light piercing the titan's heart. So this demonstrates, without a doubt, that andruil is killing the titan; pierces his core, perhaps to say that his heart is the focus.
Now the most interesting. What you probably never know is that the bioware artist responsible for painting all of the solas murals was the same person who designed many of the tarot card spreads featured in dragon age: inquisition. You are given the opportunity to learn these tarot cards through the partner selection system and as the covers for the codex entries in the game, so the minxes are already closely conditioned by the game knowledge. In the course of my research for a similar post, i discovered that tarot readings play an important role in understanding these frescoes and the personalities of the elves shown here. Also, the dragon age franchise has a huge number of connections with the mythology of different areas, so i can not say that the references to tarot cards are too far-fetched or empty.
For me, the identity of the number on the left is less important than the meaning of food, what it represents, and i believe the meaning behind the possible", andruil is better represented by the three possible tarot cards: the wizard, the devil and/or the tower.
Wizard
I believe that this tarot card remains almost the only possible image of an elf on the left. First of all, there are a lot of physical similarities; including the position of the hand, the object of power in the handle, and the disguised robes both figures wear. However, the most fascinating part is the meaning of the map in relation to the fresco. I'll let the experts speak for me:
The central figure depicts a man pointing to the sky with his hands and pointing to the ground with his other hand, as if to say "as above, so below". This is always a complex phrase, but its result is that the earth reflects the sky, the outer world reflects the inner, the microcosm reflects the macrocosm, the earth reflects god. Here it is also possible to interpret that the magician symbolizes the ability to carry out assigned tasks as an intermediary between the world above and the well-groomed, human world. . His position represents his connection between the spiritual spheres and the financial spheres, who uses this connection to create and manifest his tasks in the physical sphere.
On the table in front of him are four symbols of tarot suits - a cup, a pentacle, sword and wand - each represents any of the 4 elements - water, earth, oxygen and fire. But a sign that he has all the tools and elements needed to bring his fantasies to life. Above his head is an infinity symbol, and around his waist is a snake biting its own tail, indicating that he has an entrance to limitless potential. And in the foreground are many leaves and variations of color, symbolizing the flowering and fulfillment of his ideas and intentions.
- Biddy tarot
I found it so intriguing, so how i believe that any goal of the fight with the titans was to gain power over both the shadow, likewise over the physical world; "make the earth bloom." I will elaborate on my interpretation of "war" in part six, but that the mage's bank card is "the connecting force between heaven and earth" is extremely invaluable in the story behind such a mural.
Devil
In my opinion, this card gives an important insight into what the ideology of evanuris is - an understanding that also affects solas. However, firstly, you can see that both figures have a similar posture and imagery, with arms up and down, and what appear to be horns on their heads. You might even be able to connect whatever looks like two streams of "emerald waters of withering" flowing in the figure's robes to the 2 naked figures in the devil's diagram. Now for the meaning:
The devil is in the business of trapping. It means a situation through which there is no way out, or a road leading to it personally.
This card depicts the devil, offered in his most famous form of satire, also known as baphomet. He stands on a pedestal, to which a naked guy and a young lady are chained, as if showing that he rules over them.
Both the strawberry lover and the woman have horns, as if means, to show that the more time they spend with the devil, the less human they become. The chains give the impression that the devil has captured the rollers. The guy has a flame on his tail, and the client has a bowl of grapes on his tail, which symbolizes their affection for power and the good things in life, respectively.
Looking closely, both men and the woman do not look happy. Their personal power was taken from them, leaving them unprotected and ashamed of their nakedness.
As you can see from these two quotes, the devil tarot card represents "an addiction to power and finer things." In life", connecting with the ever-growing desire of the ancient elves for more power and control over both the shadow and the physical world. And software, according to solas, this predilection was the determining factor in evanuris' fatal flaws. Another important point is that the inverted pentagram depicted on the head of the devil represents corruption, greed, shortsightedness and taking what is not earned. This is related to the first quote, as it can symbolically indicate how the evanuris' lack of foresight, greed, and desire to discover a higher power are leading them down a path of war with the titans, which has the potential to end only in disaster. I touched on this in more detail in the first part, in section 3, so study it if you haven't done it yet!
The tower
And now from the surface level , this tarot card has not received any resemblance to the figure in the fresco. However, if you look at the bigger picture, literally, it starts to make more sense. What could be andruil doing in the fresco? She crushes the titan, the "pillar of the earth" with a beam of golden light. This is similarly depicted on the map, where the tower (okay, the tower looks like a pillar, right?) Is struck by golden lightning. The "dark and sinister" atmosphere of the tarot cards is also reflected by the elf on the left side of the fresco. And now the value is:
The tower map shows a tall spire perched on top of a mountain. Lightning strikes the tower, setting it on fire. Flames blaze in the windows, and we jump out of the windows in desperation. Perhaps they signal all the same figures that our confectioners saw forged on the devil cards earlier. They want to escape the turmoil and destruction within.
The tower is a symbol of ambition built on wrong premises. The destruction of the tower must take place to clear the old roads and welcome the option of the new.
Dark and ominous, the tower is the epitome of destruction and conflict. Not just a change, but a sudden and abrupt movement caused by unforeseen and traumatic events that are an element of life.
To make room for the new, the old must be destroyed. The ambition you have been following is built on a weak foundation and offers false rewards.
I think it's great that a link has been made between this card and the aforementioned devil card. Let me explain this connection in my own words: evanuri's ambition and greed, built on "false premises", led them to the road of destruction, leaving them powerless and "ashamed of their nakedness." That is, their deeds eventually led to their expulsion from the hands of solas and, over time, to other catastrophic consequences that the young ladies did not have the wisdom, care or foresight to predict.
This card is usually interpreted as meaning danger, crisis, destruction and sudden unforeseen changes; i think it has to do with the catastrophic and ill-advised consequences of the split of the titans. "The destruction of the tower must take place to clear old travels and welcome something new" may well refer to evanuris's goal of destroying the titans in order to cause the earth to blossom, gaining power over the shadow, likewise over the physical world. World.
Solas, the dire wolf
In my opinion, all the trespasser dlc frescoes are a kind of “self-portrait” of solas; works done in his signature mural style to document his personal history through the eyes of the "dreadwolf". It appears on all these frescoes, and this fresco is no different. Since the figure on the left is already accounted for in my books, this suggests that the figure on the right is most likely solas. What really convinced me of such a personality was (you understand) the layout of the tarot cards!
From left to right: elf on the fresco, solas tarot card, hermit tarot card</> Solas is the phrase of the hermit tarot card; especially during the base game dragon age: inquisition (since there was no romance). There is no doubt that all three of the above images have a significant visual similarity. All three hold a source of power in their hands: an elven orb, a flame, and the seal of solomon (representing wisdom and spiritual understanding). All three are camouflaged and have mastered the background of the mountains. The middle and right figures have a staff in their hand, and the middle and left figures also have an aura or halo of light above their heads. Moreover, any three seem to be standing under the night sky and stars. Now about what the cards mean:
There are times in every life when you want to create a step back and carefully study your situations and eliminations. You need a period of internal reflection, away from the current requirements of your position . This retreat can be physical or a search within. However, only deep and truthful introspection will contribute to the solution.
When you realize your true path, nothing will stand in your way. Life has challenged you, ashley ortega xxx, but you are ready to do your best in the future.
- Reliable tarot
The hermit portrays an old man standing alone on the peak of a mountain with a lantern in one hand and a staff in the other. The hermit tarot card indicates the level of spiritual knowledge that he has reached and that the person is ready to share this knowledge with everyone. He too has a deep commitment to his goal and a firm awareness of the path he is on. Inside the lantern you will see a sixth dotted star, also known as the seal of solomon. This symbol represents wisdom.
The hermit seeks knowledge that comes from within. A lonely wanderer on the path of the night, he seeks everything that can only be found by long periods of loneliness - an inner voice. To hear it, he must cut himself off from the crowd, whose voices and wishes threaten to overwhelm his own. He moves through the dark night of his unconscious, guided only by the dim light of the northern princess of our time and his destination is his home, his self.
- Labyrinthos
Let's start since solas is a character known for his wisdom and appreciation for intelligence and thoughtfulness. We propose to say, even before we know of his identity as fen'harel, that he is a solitary one who has spent much time contemplating his own morality through his mundane experience and exploration of the shadow, and contemplating the path he feels he must take. In the outsider dlc, he tells us that he has sworn to tread the solitary path of din'anshiral to restore the elven people, regardless of the cost of thedas or himself. It can not be shaken, even if you have an affair. Any of these criteria for his personality are reflected in the hermit tarot card.
I have some options for how the landing page could be related to the zodiac mural; i think the fresco may indicate that he realized the greed of the elven pantheon and what it might cost the folk, which refers to the veilfire runes found on that very fresco when you find it in the game:
for a minute, the air is filled with the smell of blood, and a vivid image of green vines is formed, growing and enveloping the fiery sphere. The vision darkens. Aeon seems to be passing. Then the runes crackle as if filled with wrathful energy.
A new vision emerges: the elves destroy the caverns, sealing the deep roads with stone and magic. Horror, heartbeat, icy cold as the last spell is cast. A voice whispers:
"What evanuris in personal greed can unleash will destroy us all. May this place be forgotten. May no one awaken his wrath. The people must rise, so long their false gods will destroy these games."
- Runes of the veiled fire in the deep roads
The drawing on the right is introspection and discovery of one's true path and once discovered, no one should stay in their path. I think this signals the appearance of solas, the beginning of his path to wisdom; moment, in that case, he began to wonder about the greed and ambitions of evanuris and in the division of the titans. In particular here he began to take on the name fen'harel, an "insult" that the gods inflicted on him, which he "took as a sign of pride." Here he became the god of rebellion, calling upon the people to "rise before their false gods destroy these games."
Tldr: i believe the figure on the left represents evanuris as a whole; their greed, corruption and shortsightedness are leading them, or maybe the entire planet, down a path of destruction. However, the figure on the right represents solas and the discovery of wisdom, and among other things the beginning of his journey on the road he must travel to prevent evanuris from destroying the world; his origin as "rebel wolf".
3. Titan
For starters, i think it's important to describe my thoughts on what titans are. While much of their character is very obscure, and the descent dlc has left many users with more questions than answers, there are some intriguing bits of dialogue and codex footage that i think give us clues to their identity. Besides that, by analogy with all the common topics of this post, i would like to show you my really exciting connection of the news about the tarot with the image of the titans on the mural.
'Death of a a foci. There is a clear connection between the titan's heart and the sphere held by solas. Both are represented by an 8-pointed star, the meaning of which i did not know before i began to dive into the knowledge of tarot and all this visual morrigan is most often mine immediately. I will also split this section in two for ease of reading.
The eight-pointed star
I have researched what the eight-pointed star symbolizes in the lore of the map and discovered that the porn bunny is represented star card; the sign of the zodiac is pisces, pouring out the eternal waters of commitment and life to the whole earth. It has extraordinary access to lyrium, especially since the church believes that this is the actual material of creativity, from which the creator created the world.
Tarot card star
The right leg of the woman marked on the account is idle in the water of the pool, and the left knee is in the light. She is holding two water urns. Water falling on the land feeds all life on earth. The water that returns to the pool is highly purified water that purifies and incorporates the very essence of the water element.
The pool symbolizes the subconscious, the earth is naturally matter. World, while the woman is responsible for restoring vitality in both. Urns with water indicate the unity of vagueness and earth. The eight-pointed star above her head seems to be a part of her being, symbolizing rebirth, cheerfulness and mystical center.
The woman depicted in the diagram knows perfectly what she should do. However, in some case, the porn bunny does not suddenly notice what is happening around her.
There is a line of thinking that connects the woman depicted on the star tarot with the goddess nuit. Instead of being depicted simply as the firmament, nuit, who in egyptian mythology was the goddess of the sky, on this tarot card takes on a human form. She pours out the main characteristic of her nature - her eternal waters of love and the gifts of the spirit - thus marking the process of constant renewal of life and the limitless potential of existence.
The eight-pointed star is a religious symbol of redemption and rebirth. In a mystical sense, the star is a sign of the spirit. This is our mystical major cities, and this is the true destiny. The star is a symbol of pure spiritual love that awaits us at the end of our journey.
- Sunbeam
Another interpretation of this card is this: it represents the great mother sephiroth, representing a deep understanding of everything. For example, in dictated by the problems, what seems to be the "all-seeing eye" of titan. In the descent, we noticed that the quakes were caused by a cauldron, and the only way for titan to calm herself down is to go out in just one of her children, valta. This is reflected in the tarot of the star, as the card shows that she does not understand what is happening around her. The titan relies on his children, the dwarves, who are able through his eyes.
Also, this card's alternate names are daughter of the firmament and dweller of the waters. Daughter of the firmament also means daughter of the "vault of heaven" or daughter of heaven. The commentator in part 1 told me that the sinister presence in the black city meanwhile was peacock feathers, so i looked up the meaning of peacock feathers in greco-roman mythology (roman empire is what i think the tevinter empire is based on). The feathers of the peacock's tail symbolize the vault of heaven and the "eyes" of the stars. Perhaps the mentioned factor also means the connection of the titans and lyrium with the shadow. There are also numerous memories of the "mistress of heaven" in the dragon age lore. I always assumed it meant "mythal", but could that kind of reference be a reference to the titans as well?
Another amazing mention of an eight-pointed star that i found was in another fresco, by the way solas. , At this step in the skyhold rotunda:
Temple of mythal mural
Solas completes this fresco after the events of the temple of mythal. What fascinates me so much is the extent to which the connection between his work and the concept of tarot is clear. As you see in this case the clip after what pride has wrought, the inquisitor and his party try to avoid corypheus by escaping through eluvian after drinking from vir'abelasan. While they are still running through the portal, a figure in the manner of a woman rises from an empty well in a column of water, probably protecting them from the magister and sealing eluvian.
I always thought that said woman was mythal's spiritual guardian, but as you can see in the fresco above, solas painted an 8-pointed star on top of a water column located in front of eluvian. There are so many connections between the star tarot card, the titans and this woman; for example, her power over water, her deep blue hue (which may be serving customers with lyrium) along with her feminine appearance (dwarfs call the stone "she"). We also know that lyrium is characterized by the ability to store memories, so it would be so strange to see the presence of titan and lyrium here, where the memories of millennia of elven memories are stored?I feel that this clear access to the 8-pointed star shown in the "death of a titan" fresco must mean that the woman was actually a titan, or perhaps a spirit or aspect of one of them.
Perhaps mythal was some sort of ally of the titans, which explains the presence of one of the heifers in her temple. Was this devotion the root cause of her murder by evanuris's actions? Could she be the voice of reason trying to turn the evanuris away from their greed and ambition when the movies killed titans to find their souls and lyrium? On the right and in the middle, which i analyzed in some 1, section 1?
Another very interesting aspect of tarot information that i discovered was the kabbalistic tree of life. According to my research, the star tarot card connects netzach and yesod, also known as eternity and foundation, on the tree of life. This definitely screams titans, especially since so much of the lore i previously explored in part one refers to what i consider titans and "eternity" together. However, i will talk about this in more detail in the third part.
Here lies the abyss, the source of all souls.
From these emerald waters, life begins again.
Come to me, child, and i will embrace you.
Eternity lies in my hands.
- Andraste 14:11
The mother and her children with her
From conversations with dagna, kieran and cole in the game, it is concluded that the titans are a special “collective of interlocutors”; collective consciousness with its children, the dwarves.
"Lyrium must flow, but if you are a part of it, it will take you with it. So you cannot be a part. This saddens me. Not i know why. It seems we should be involved. Whatever it is.
I was up to my neck in rune, and for a moment... I got tall. Very tall. And i thought. .. I thought of all the thoughts.
Like, as high as a mountain. Or i was a mountain. But i was moving. I felt vertigo. You know what i remembered? Watching the speed carve a wall of memory .Except... The big one. Isn't that strange? There were couples sometimes.
Like a little "i've been around all my people. And my thought was them all? Just a little bit, my thought was all our thoughts. Like parts. Ugh, words are a mess. Perhaps a hack that senses the stone. Or do we think it feels if we think it feels? Creepy."
— Dagna
"Their ancient shapers were mountains, pulled together by all their wills, carrying their memories down into the valleys. F the world."
- Cole
"But you can't excel. Not without titans."
- Old god kieran speaks to a dwarf inquisitor
This mother-baby relationship is explored through numerous codex entries across all three games. , And their art is canon that dwarves consider themselves "children of the stone", supported, sheltered, and bestowed "the most priceless gifts of the earth" from her. , Protects them from collapses or whispers to expectant mothers about the future of their unborn babies. According to karshol, the reality of the stone feeling is much more mundane. , Not a single visitor talks to the stone. It is more of a connection. These bunnies can feel the passage even before they get there before him and can fly through the deep roads without getting lost hopelessly.
- Tog's diary</>But i heard her loudest of all. In the dark, she stayed her soft lullaby showed me the way i could return: my own song napo filled with mother's love, i assembled the singing stone by hand. They said it would poison me, but mother would never do the clearance. Not to my son. There are secrets in the melody meant only for me.
Mother's song flows from me. Liquid fire pours out of my eyes, mouth and ears. I give it all and become the verse in her chorus. I am finally complete. It was not about the words, but only about the famous hit.
— Kolga magazine
The last sentence in the code article above from kolga magazine is extremely important here. . I think that describes how gnomes are just words in a titans song. As cole says, “it's singing. It's something that sleeps but still makes music." There are many stories linking heaters and lyrium to "singing" and i think that's how the titans bonded with their children.
As i found out in some of the first, section 2, my theory is this. The dark presence trapped in the void is the corrupted titans. Evanuris' goal was to kill the titans in order to collect their bodies for lyrium and telephonic hearts to use as magic tricks. However, the elimination of their hearts did not systematically kill them; this "torn" their being and telephone access to the children.I'll go into more detail in my post in part 4, but i think there's a connection between the darkspawn, the summon, and the titans. Bregan describes the call of the old gods as the sound of "terrible youth and "terrible longing", while the architect sees the darkspawn chasing the ancient dragons as a never-ending quest for perfection, which they will never be able to achieve, because it is corrupted. If, when movies touch him. The gray warden wrote that such music is "almost a voice, both ethereal and beautiful" that evokes the feeling of "a presence watching and calling."
Surfaces are certain that the first darkspawn has fallen. From paradise. They tell stories of magic and sin. But the children of the stone know better. The creatures of darkness have ascended. For it was on the deep roads that they appeared in the world. Creatures like us, armed and armored but no more intelligent than a tezpadam, bestial and feral.
— Codex article: darkspawn
I am convinced that the first creatures of darkness were the children (gnomes) of the "split" titans and the distorted song they hear is the split titans locked in the black city, trying to call their own guys again and connect with them. Also, i will explore it somewhere else - in part 4.
Now i have read the meaning of the number 14 in tarot knowledge thanks to this image, i have talked about it in some 1, showing that seems like 14 pillars with vision. I assumed that these 14 pillars represented the tainted cauldrons and the advice i found through the tarot cards was very interesting to me. The fourteenth card in the major arcana tarot deck is called temperance.
Temperance tarot card
First, there is a hundred in common between this card and the star. Elements that, as i said, represent the titans. The two vessels that seem to hold "the waters of being - in balance" are very similar. In addition, both figures have one foot on the ground and the other foot in a pool of water.
In the background, you can see what looks like a golden light shining over the top of a mountain, holding strikes significance for the golden city, especially in connection with the game, where it is evidenced that the golden city was first located on mount belenas. Some important symbolism is shown on the angel's robe, on which you have the opportunity to see a triangle enclosed in a square in front. The mirror is how all living creatures (triangle) are connected by beds and the law of nature (square).
Everything in its map is a balance, a perfect harmony arising from the union of duality.</> - Labririnthos
This card is best described as a "balance" card, and there are so many codex entries that indicate a connection between what is placed inside the black city, doomsday and "balance" regeneration. You can read a little about this fact in part 1, section 3.
By the will of the creator, i command
Harmony in absolutely everything.
Let the balance be restored
And eternal life be given to the world.
- Exaltation 1:14
tldr: titans are beings who pour out "the eternal waters of love and being throughout the world" (lyrium), and it is their duty to maintain balance in everything, both in the physical world and also in the shadows. In fact, they will be the life force of the world. They represent the balance, eternity and foundation of the earth and i believe this confirms in such a mindset that in the situation where the evanuris "split" their being, probably removing their souls and connection with their personal children, this corrupted them, causing the origin of pestilence .
Conclusionin conclusion, i think this speaks volumes about solas' introspection and his further understanding of evanuris's greed and bribery. He proved wise to the tragic results of their addiction to unleashing their highest potential and it was here that he began his journey to try and save the world from weathering at their hands; then he became the dire wolf. The mural also gave us a great insight into the purpose of the titans and much of the rule of how their personality is so subtly explored through tarot cards, gaming lore, and the solas frescoes. I am aware that i have become more aware of how much they are required for the balance of the universe and now i am even more convinced that the killing of the evanuris titans and the removal of their hearts was the cause of the pestilence and "imbalance" on earth. The world of thedas first. I also know that the compilation is exciting, that our organization could actually witness a titan in the temple of mythal without even knowing it!
I hope i made my dreams clear enough, however tablet has some questions, i'm more than happy to answer them below. Thanks again for taking the time to read this extra long post and i trust you will have a great rest of the day! Stay with our company for the third part. :)
